I had the same thing. From what I gather, it was an issue with the OS  
version 10.4.10 I think. I have recently updated to the latest and  
does seem to have fixed the problem. However, my problem did get  
better when I turned off the airport. People seemed to think it wan  
an issue with the airport drivers. Not sure if this is the same issue  
you have.
