here is how I work with the RC-2 now:
- Set PHRASE to i.e. first loop (make sure it's empty first)
- Play etc. then Stop the loop with double click
- Turn the PHRASE LOOP knob to another loop and back to loop 1 quickly
- You're set and ready for a new loop!

Sure, you have to briefly bend down for a second. But then again, I've 
found this to be the fastest way.
