The solution is to set a different quantize value than "none" on the
drop-down menu at the transport bar.

Please note that the general synchronization for live looping in
Ableton Live has to be that the application defines the tempo, as
sync master, and all loops has to be sync slaves. This implies that
you have to start the sequencer and play in sync with its tempo when
you record your loops, even the first loop. The quantize value
defines when the recording will kick in and stop, after you have
given these commands. With "quantize = none" all loops will have
different lengths and they will drift apart. Sometimes you may like
to crate one non-synced drifting and then you can set the quantize to
"none" temporarily.
