An interesting alternative is Chopitch

http://www.mathons.com

it's a genuine pitch shifter rather than a sub-oct generator,
but because it only shifts downwards it can work without latency.

The sound you'd get would be exactly that of your guitar played
back at half speed ( but without the tempo change )

It also does a lot of other cool stuff, but it's great for basslines.
