Re: The EDP and the Looperlative and me
I thought I would show you all a typical bank of my LP-1 presets. I
currently have 6 full banks of twelve preset switches each and two
expression pedals globally set to volume and feedback which can
control either all tracks, a single track or groups of tracks
depending on how i set it up. Eventually I may add a third expression
pedal to control track speed or panning but for now I don't really
need it. So below are my bank presets and some insight if needed, in
to why or how I use them.
Preset #1 sync record/overdub pretty self
explanatory....
Preset #2 replace + track speed my go to preset when I
want to seamlessly change track pitch when replacing (either up or
down an octave) I also use this as standard replace in which I end the
command not with a second press of this switch but with my preset #1
sync record/ overdub switch.
preset #3 play stop now I use this more to arm a new track to be the
same length as the original track and then I use the replace function
to actually add new content. Again if you have recorded a first track
and you go to a new track and press play stop, it will arm that track
to the same length as the first track so when I do start to actually
record on that track, its length is pre determined by the first loop.
Does that make sense?
preset #4 Quantize replace this is a sus style command achieved by
doubling up to functions on one preset in this case quantize replace.
In order to achieve a sus style command one needs to duplicate the
function on a preset, so if you look at my first command its quantize
replace followed by another quantize replace. I assume this can be
achieved by duplicating other functions as well but I haven't delved
that deeply yet in to those options.
Preset #5 half speed I often times arm a track at half speed
before beginning a new loop
Preset #6 Replace/half speed/ reverse where did those weird violins
from hell come from??? this preset
Preset #7 All tracks this is the command I hit before ending a song
with a feedback reduction fade or a stop, I probably could just use
the front panel command but I like to keep my hands free for playing.
Preset #8 Set as Master I keep this handy because I sometimes like
to start with a long rubato melody before moving to shorter rhythm
based tracks. I'll record a long loop, move to a new track and hit the
set as master button. This is also cool to use for me because i have
different quantize values set for different tracks so if I want to use
a quantize value of 9 (to create a 9/8 beat) I start recording on
track three where I've placed that beat division.
Preset #9 Multiply in my case double, no explanation needed??
Preset #10 Erase/feedback 100% whenever I erase a track or all
tracks I want to make sure that everything is back to 100% feedback,
as I'm constantly changing the feedback in real time with the pedal
and I don't want a new track fading away accidently because the last
time I was on the track I had changed the feedback
Preset #11 track next
preset #12 previous track.
I have other banks set up to achieve more complex ABC song forms ,
which I can describe when I get my LP-1 in front of me because the
scripts are pretty long. one bank for some of the mellotron style
pitch shifting, one bank dedicated to bounce functions, one bank the
has multiple press functions like quantize replace/track speed/reverse
In which I have to double up all three of those commands to get a sus
style pedal action.
example that preset would look something like this: quantize replace-
half speed-reverse-quantize replace-half speed- reverse
Other functions I use in no particular order on other banks are:
sync bounce, copy, except track, q replace+ track speed, 1/4 speed,
and midi sync record overdub, if I'm tracking to an external clock,
and fast scramble. I haven't done much experimenting in a while to
discover new strategies but I think there is still a lot of
undiscovered territory left to explore.
