No. RME is not specifying exactly what they mean by "Hi-Z input"  
anywhere. I've had this discussion on several other fora. So you  
would have to actually measure the levels to find out.

Don't know. I usually trust my ears and my taste for adjusting sound.  
I've found the FW400 to easily match any guitar input, I'v used both  
humbuckers and singel-coils with it. It's very important for the  
final guitar sound to adjust the pre amp level correctly and this is  
very easy with the software control interface of RME. There's a lot  
of headroom.
