Re: OT: 24Bit/96Khz vs 16Bit/ 44.1Khz recording
Sounds really not nice...
I am using Olympus LS-10, has anyone noticed any glitches with that?
I can really recommend that unit, though I am not the audiophile in any way, so my judgement may not be
the most professional :-)
But with digital recorders, its always hard with the peaks....

Is it possible your Tascam (which I don't know) has ill calibrated inputs, so when you set it for -6dB recording, you're actually closer to the max?
How about simply using a soft-knee limiter as a gentle lid on the top peaks?

Thanks for all the very interesting information. I opted for the 24Bit/44Khz setting on the Tascam DR-2d. I have to say, though, that this unit is the most twitchy portable digital recorder I've used as far as getting good recording levels. I 'think' I finally have a setting that works (and I'm using the "safety" track Dual Record at -6 dB lower). I thought I 'still' noticed an artifact or two where my guitar sent the level too high for a brief period. I'm close to returning the unit frankly as I never had issues with any of the Zoom recordings like this unit.
