Re: sitting gear (TIMEBENDER)-from my bad memory//splattercellloops...
speaking of the pds 8000, my go to box-my friend James Potter, some of you
know-is selling his baby:

Subject: sitting gear (TIMEBENDER)-from my bad memory//splattercell
loops...
this is all from memory, since it's been probably 3 yrs since i had a
dd20, and over a yr since i had the timebender:
it is similar in aspect to the dd20 in that it has a # of delay options,
but the longest was only 5 sec, and honestly i thought the delay options
for 100% feedback
seemed limited. it was not at all like my old dod d12 (12 sec of delay,
the budget lexicon pcm42 i thought of it as), but remember the dd20 has 23
sec of delay.
to me the timebender seemed like a pitchshifter that had some delay
options, and pitchshifting is probably the effect that interestes me the
least, perhaps that's
b/c i also have pitch options in my digitech rp150 and my lexicon mx200
(which again i use very rarely). i thought the tape mode was decent, but
it didn't blow me
away. if you want varispeed pitch, i like the ibanez de7 (which is cheap,
and i wish i wouldn't have sold, although it doesn't go to 100% feedback),
my guyatone md3, which is my other piece of gear that i've had in storage
that may come out soon, and of course the EH 16ddl does varispeed
pitchshifting nice. as does the old digitech pds8000 (no
direct experience w/ this, but the bill frisell vids on youtube of him
from his old instruction vid is GREAT!) (i should note i also think my
lexicon mx200 does decent short varispeed delays, i should mess w/that
more!) (and stop whining!)
of course these are just the things i know from using low end gear, oh,
the boss dd7 did varispeed decent, and my current digitech dl8 does it
decent on the short delays.
i think i was hoping more from the TIMEBENDER, wanting to use it as my
main looper, but it was lacking for me (like not all modes went to 5 sec,
etc)
i think it's a real crapper than digitech can't come out w/ the mother of
all delay based loopers that combined what the pcm42/dod d12/pds8000 could
do. make it have 20 sec of delay and really be able to control it, take
short loops and stretch them out or long loops and shorten them to get the
mickey mouse high pitch stuff. it just sucks since they F***ING own all
the companies that produced this great gear in the past, oh well i can
dream. instead they focus on putting out phrase samplers that can hold a
million hrs of stuff in memory, oh well...
i should note in the varispeed debate-i have not been able to check out
any of the high end delay options, like the eventide delay box, the tc
electronics delay box, or the pigtonix 20 sec delay box, that honestly
looks like the thing i'd like to have, but it's close to 500 beans, about
the total of all my gear combined....
oh-i should also note that i'd probably like the dd20 more now, since
i've settled w/ what the dl8 can do, neither of which were close to my old
dod d12, i just didn't want to mess w/ rack stuff any more.....
end of long blather, hope there's an answer somewhere in there for you....
btw-i'm currently listening to david torn's splattercell/loops for
acid/soundtrack thing (this is not the correct title, i'm 2 lazy to pull
the disc out), man there are some great sounds on here. and it's perfect
for short attention span person like me, just short little clips of
interesting sounds/processing/ explorations...i know it's supposed to be
a tool for composers to use in soundtracks and stuff, but great
listening.....

question to all Timebender users:
1. Is the timebender similar to the DD20 mentioned before insofar as the
delays are the interesting thing, not the looper?
2. What about the looper?
3. Does the timebender do a proper varispeed (i.e. tape speed
change-kind) when you adjust the delay time while there's something
already in the delay?
