Re: public response to looping

Paul I think there's a great deal to what you say and what Mathias once said that I missed, that being 'self therapy' as I've thought that a lot.  Clearly when you do instrumental music whether looped or not as I like you it sounds knew a another world of instrumental music making prior to finding this community and technology.  I did solo instrumental guitar pieces in the style of the late Michael Hedges for years till I felt that garden needed a rest and began to explore infusing technology with my path.  Point is it's all been instrospective, sure I wanted people to 'get it' to respond to at times pay me for what I felt I deserved.  In recent years I've around to the feeling that the latter is nice when it happens but not my reason for doing this more and more.  Though I've had a good life thusfar and only a few challenges I've carried a lot of guilt and anxiety.  Music is the one avenue that allows me to depart from those demons.  Someone once said to me in a conversation over the 'soul' and spirituality that the 'soul' was the muse I felt when I connected with music which was no secret on a level but eye opening on another.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Definitely doesn't mean that one quits, it does mean that one may need to adjust expectations. If you're looking for fame and fortune this may not be the way to find it. I believe it was Mathias that said somewhere that looping was a sort of self therapy... I liked that a lot! It is certainly that way for me. I play for myself and some other people seem to get something out of it as well and I'm happy for them.

Actually playing the hammered dulcimer gets the same emotional response, I think that may be why I've been trying to blend the two together.

If I'm hired to entertain, then I do a different sort of music altogether.

If I want to make money, then I do plumbing........

I recall a quote from him saying that it was still his favorite way of making sounds; yet this is the man who went on record saying "you can't sell ambient music" in England.  No kidding, he said nine years on!  Doesn't mean one quits though hm?
