Amanda & I have been chatting about this quite a bit. Her strategy is a different than many, including mine...but just as valid. First, she is just as much a performance artist as musician, so the webcasts and impromptu stage auctions (every night on our last tour she would auction a signed guitar in the middle of the set) are all a part of the show. Also, she doesn't make anything from her albums and must find other sources of revenue.

I blogged about money and music the previous day, if anyone is interested:

(Some modern) musicians are the only folks I know who will FIGHT for the right to give their work away.  It is SO weird!

always happy to run into others who have to do crass, unartistic things like eat, pay rent/mortgage, buy the occasional pint, use modern transportation etc

Amanda Palmer wrote this blog about making money on the internet
and the attitudes of people she encounters who don't appreciate her efforts
at staying financially stable as an artist.
