The Institute For Music And Media
at the University of Music Düsseldorf
is seeking a

PROFESSOR FOR MUSIC INFORMATICS (W2)

as soon as possible.

The field of Music Informatics is situated between informatics, digital signal processing, composition, musicology, sound studio recording and media technology. On the one hand, the computer is a the center of contemporary music production and distribution; on the other hand, being the most universal instrument, the computer opens new possibilities for the artistic interests of musicians. Thus, the virtual sound studio, computer-aided composition, sound synthesis, electronic studio, music (re)search and music identification, audio-content-management and network based performance are some relevant areas of work within the music informatics field.

For the music informatics professorship, the Institute For Music And Media invites applicants who possess a profound background in academic and artistic accomplishments within the area, and who are skilled in organizing and expanding the field of music informatics both in research and pedagogy at the Institute.

Further requirements include: A wide range of international teaching and professional experience on a high artistic and didactic level, as well as an university degree; demonstrated skills in modern audio programming environments such as SuperCollider, Max/MSP, PureData and audio production software such as ProTools and Nuendo, etc.; comprehensive experience with sound projects in interdisciplinary teams (e.g. development of software instruments; software based group performance, audio-visual projects in the film-, installation and media arts; interactive works, mixed media art projects; interdisciplinary scientific projects with music and informatics aspects).

Generally, beside educational skills and a clear disposition toward interdisciplinary cooperation, participation in the academic administration and in the expansion of the university and the institute is expected. General conditions of employment are based on § 46 HG NRW. Upon first appointment to a professorship, a probationary period of three years will apply.

The University values the quality of a balanced distribution according to gender. Minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Complete applications should be submitted until February 10th 2009 to:
