I recently had a job doing a sound mix for a low-budget film. Much of the
location sound and dialogue was recorded using a cheap stereo mic with 2
oposing capsules. When any of the tracks recorded with that mic were
summed
to mono, the phase cancellations resulted in about a 30db drop in overall
volume, plus some really nasty EQ. Very annoying.
