Hi everyone, I am new to this group and i'd like to introduce myself. I perform under the namd Potpie in New Orleans, I am definitely intimidated by the gear many of you have, I use 3 sine wave generators running through 3 Digitech pds1002 pedals but have just hooked up a double reel to reel delay (no explanation needed for you folks eh?) which sounds very promising although daunting to drag them around for a live set!
200211/msg00826:tools of the trade-why so incomplete?
18:
Hi I'm new here and I was poking around the website trying to get some in depth info on digitech PDS and RDS units as well as earlier BOSS/Roland DDL's which are looper friendly. Basically where I'm coming from is I'm looking for a DDL with 4+seconds of delay, controls which allow me to, at the very least, change the pitch of the loop on the fly, and preferably some kind of sampling mode which I can solo over although this is not vital as I can use an AB box to accomplish this if need be. I don't have a preference as far as pedal vs. rackmount but it has to work well run in front of the amp as I don't have an fx loop and am not about to upgrade or modify my vibrolux reverb ;-) I'm especially interested in sleepers like some of the older BOSS/Roland, Digitech/DOD etc. models (ADA? Ibanez? Deltalab? Korg? Lexicon? TC?) Thanks y'all! Kirk

Hi all... I'm a guitar player from Brazil and I've just joined the list. I have a Digitech PDS 8000 and I've experiencing some problems with it (there are annoying pops along with the repeats and some of the functions doesn't work). Finding parts for it here is virtually impossible. Do you have a clue of what's going on? Do you have a source of parts for this pedal?

ok, i was watching a youtube vid on a guy demoing a digitech echo plus (is that the pds 8000? not sure).anyway, the things it could do were kind of cool 8 sec of delay, came out in the late 80's (i know frisell has used one in place of his old EH 16 DDL),...he was showing the main features of it, slapback echo (he seemed to be into the "rockabilly sound"-played some real twangy reverse strat so he looked like a sort of righty hendrix, he was kind of funny), and i think he did a longer echo demo, then did a bit showing the 8 sec sample format (he of course didn't show enough of that, which i wanted to see!!!!). someone on another forum i check (the gear page) was talking about this unit can do the funny pitch changes by playing w/ the time knob (i think?)-and said that's one thing the frisell exploits greatly.anyway, my question:the echo plus

19:
style time adjust (like the PDS8000) The Roland RE-20 seems to do it but 22:
my old post (below) from april...various pedals do it different ways. "hold" function is one way, the new digitech pedals (digi-delay and dl8) have that if you keep the feedback at 3 o'clock, you can continue to add stuff to the delay time, then if you move feedback to 100% it will lock the delay loop in and you can play over it (or mangle the time) and have the mangled time be your backing loop (my fun use). so under the category is any delay pedal (device) that offers 100% feedback. one ex: the ibanez de7-the delay does not go to 100%, i think when i had it, the most repeats were about 10 and it would fade away, but yes, i think we need a DELAY -BASED LOOPING LIST. 24:

he favors short scale teles (not sure if he ever traveled w/ them) that he's had made, i'll have to watch that NPR piece closely. in the last few yrs he's used some jagaur/jazzmaster things also....for me w/ his looping: i often wonder if it's down to what tools work or are available to him (line 6 dl4). certainly i think he used to use the EH 16ddl, but i think his broke (but nels clines' still works!). and then he moved on to the digitech pds8000, which honestly i think is a brilliant tool in his hands...which the new "jamman" versions and even the digitech dl8 is not really even close to it....which is a shame i think....i guess i'm talking more of the varispeed stuff he did during the ghost town album, or the stuff he demos on the "guitar artistry of bill frisell" (it's on the 2/5 section of the youtube clips) (which i think is just F***ING BRILLIANT!!!). i really wish someone would do an in depth interview w/ him and his looping , past and gear....but i think for him it's just a tool that he uses to create....which is probably the lesson there...oh well....

19:
the old digitech rp100 (small) had 2 sec of delay which i loved for glitchy goodness. some people had lots of +/- about it's amp models sound, this is from 2000 though, i thought it was good.the upgraded rp155 series (there was the 150 also)-these are all the smaller of the multi-effects-it upgraded to 5 sec of delay. i didn't think it was as good as the rp100. 22:
if you're needing a long delay i would think just going w/ the boss dd20 (23 sec) would be worth it. i've debated getting one again.i stil like my digitech dl8, i use if for the 8 sec of delay and do love it--when you manipulate the time it does more of the glitchy/warp vs holding notes and varispeed/pitch shift up or down... 23:
i sort of dream that maybe someday digitech will rerelease and updated pds8000 maybe w/ some expanded time to do those fun bill frisell varispeed things....i can dream.good luck!s---

Totally agree, though since I'm completely computer based these days, I'd love to see a pds8000 vst effect. I love the PSP 42 vst, but if it had 20 seconds of delay I'd use it a lot more!

Art, if this is preventing you from creating the sounds you want, I'll can probably make you one. Get in touch off-list if you're interested and let me know exactly what you'd like. I've been thinking of doing boutique VST's for artists for a while and this could be a useful exercise..peacegGareth Whittock, sound artist: garethwhittock.co.ukDate: Mon, 16 Jul 2012 09:43:51 -0700Subject: Re: my open letter to DIGITECH (begging for a better delay based looper)From: simart@gmail.comTo: Loopers-Delight@loopers-delight.comHi Gareth & Per,I'm PC based, and I just went through the process of upgrading to 64 bit Windows. What a pain! As an aside, that's another big advantage for MacOS that you don't have to choose to install 32 bit or 64 bit.

Hey Scott, check out these videos for the Digitech Timebender. In particular the first video at about 3:40. http://timebenderdelay.com/?p=565#more-565 I love this thing and still haven't run out of fun things to do with it. 20:
a few yrs ago. someone was searching for long delays that had a vari-speed option in them (like what a lexicon pcm42 or eh 16ddl or digitech pds8000)

Jeez...it isn't really about the 'chip' at all, is it?It's about the functionality and interface.Am I ignorant here? Someone can't make a 'hold delay' feature in a current production looper because of a 'chip' no longer being made? How does one explain that feature on the Pigtronix delay, then?Don't reissue the damn thing, digitech, reinvent it. A pds based machine with tap tempo or 'first loop' length setting and a longer delay time would be a terribly fun box.Sent from my iPhoneOn Jul 16, 2012, at 2:51 PM, Scott Hansen <evanpeewee@gmail.com> wrote:This is the response i got from digitech. nice they got back to me in a day. their answer is what i expected...oh well, i tried....s---

it was a great device. i should have kept mine. the thing is, i think EH could take their EH smmh device and make that something similar to the 16ddl and not make it cost a fortune, and just use KNOBS to control the parameters...but they've gone the route of the 2880 or whatever the new # is....that is why it was great. it was the device B frisell was using in the 90s before his digitech pds8000...when you heard him use backwards loops, that's it!

it's not really just an "ordinary delay". show me a delay that can go fwd or reverse, and then be able to modulate the time and speed and get all kinds of crazy sounds...most of the delays that i've tried when you manipulate the speed knob it usually does NOTHING (the digitech dl8 just sort of warps it in an odd way, which i've just gotten used to....but the material in the delay is sort of lost). 19:
in regards to the digitech pds8000-digitech (8 sec delay)--i was told by a tech at digitech that the chip that made the pds8000 unique is no longer made.to my ear it does what nothing else can. i think the problem nowadays is that people want LONGER TIMES, STORAGE TIMES, etc 20:
the korg SDD units, are so popular b/c it's what the edge used back in the 80s/90s.yea, the cost of the original eh16ddl are pretty out of control. remember we're talking a unit that's from early 80s...bill frisell's broke, hence he went to the pds8000...and from what i've heard, those original units are selling in the $1600 range. OUCH!!!

Thanks for your replies. To answer your questions and comment your suggestions:A. Brent: MIDI sync is NOT a requirement. What's more, with the DD20, SMM w/Hazari, PDS8000, KP3 and M9 already in the setup, delay or looper capability is not considered a requirement, either. 33:

throughout the 90s i mostly used it to do "quasi-tape echoplex noises" like tommy bolin would do (or steve stevens), but i could also do simple pitch-shift stuff like bill frisell would do w/ his digitech pds8000. of course not as well as bf of course. 20:
in early 00s i sold my steinberger gl3t, and w/ the $$ i bought a digitech rp100, it had 2 sec of delay, and honestly during the time i had that, i would mess w/ that delay, just glitch the living hell out of playing stuff and manipulate. it was so fun. then shortly after getting it, i got a dod d-12, a 12 sec delay rack unit, but it also had ability to sample 6 sec or 12 sec of material. and once i discovered that, i would mess w/ the 2 sec of delay on the rp100 and dump it into the dod d12...i had a lot of fun messing w/ that for a long time. honestly i'm not sure if i've ever explored what 2 pieces of equipment could do as much or as well as those, but it was a different time. i usually played guitar close to 2 hours a night-our oldest child was pretty young, so he slept most of the time....i don't have nearly that much time now w/ kids activities and coaching basketball!
