Re: Why...?

Why do you 'loop'? What got you started on this path?
Honestly, got the idea from Keller Williams and Victor Wooten. I bought an RC-20 in 2004 and went right to trying to be those guys (obviously). Then, I came up with this extended melody, laid it down, put some layers on it and that's when I started writing ambient music. This is the first album I recorded with it (and the first track is the first song I wrote on the RC-20): http://danielharris.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-head-syrup

Was it a mechanism for solo performance? to record a vamp?
To experiment!

A compositional device, a new avenue of _expression_? (repetition as compositional device?)
Everything.

An 'artistic statement' in itself? as if to say "I DONT NEED NO STINKIN BAND!"
No, I'm not that pretentious.

A fallback for artistic roadblocks? (as in--an easy way out)
No.

A way of exploring new rhythms?
Totally.

A textural apparatus? sound design?
Fuck yeah.

A means of 'warping sound'?
Yeup.

With me, it's been all of the above, and I've jumped among 7 or 8 devices along the way.

How about you?
