Re: OMG OT: Harmonic Capo / back up hard drives

Rick and gang,

For the future, a really cool solution to backup is the Voyager.

I take the old 1TB drives out of my ever expanding Drobo (now 7 TB), reformat and use them for backup.  You just plug raw drives into Voyager and away you go.  Don't have to pay for a power supply etc each time you need more backup.   You don't need the fast and more expensive drives for backup.  I've saved a good deal of money doing this.

I buy the cheap 2TB drives from Tiger Direct- around $90!!

I've found it's always good to eject drives from Voyager before sleep or rebooting etc.

Drobo itself is incredible, but the up front costs are more and it can be slower than mud going uphill.  Cool thing about Drobo is, drives can die inside it and no data is lost.  But it's time consuming.  I've had two drives die in it and... Ta Dah!  No data loss!

Replacing drives in Drobo can take days to format and reshuffle data.  But if you worry about data loss and don't mind hearing it grind on for days behind the scenes, it's really cool.

I think both are cool solutions, but I'd probably start with Voyager first.  Cheap way to get the job done.  Drobo is more secure, but you can always make mirror copies of Voyager drives too.

I think both work in both Macs and Windows machines.

Thanks for the heads up Rick! Can't wait to get mine.

BTW, let me know if you need anything to get your computer recording
setup up and running, I'll often have extra drives, enclosures and
audio interfaces lying around.
You are such a sweetheart, Art!   Thanks for your generous offer.
I think I'm covered.......I went out and bought a slew of big hard drives so
that I never have backup woes again.
