Re: OT: Suggestions for monitor speakers

I fully agree on the Tannoy's. A good friend of mine have used Tannoy's
for ages, and resently upgraded to newer Reveal's, saying he can listen
on Tannoy's for hours without ear fatique.

I'm using a set of Mackie HR624 mk2's, which I'm *very* happy with.
Though being the analythic type, they're nonetheless useful for both
nearfield monitoring and ordinary media at 3-5 meters distance;
everything sounds really good - and for hours ;)
Freq response is 21Khz to 37hz -1.5dB; quite impressive for the size.
Takes a few days to get them played-in, after which the early impresion
of being slightly 'tight' is gone.

Before shopping those, I listened to several more expensive brands, but
felt some were too over-detailed, to the point of sounding unrealistic.
This is surely great for having every single detail revealed, but IMHO
also means needing another set of speakers for listening to how it
actually sounds in real life; a financially unacceptable choise for me.

I'd suggest a visit to the soundonsound.com magazine, and search out
varous reviews by Paul White, who's an old rat in this game, and always
write in an objective way.

Happy shopping!
