Hello,

As long as there is no tempo change, nothing happens when you go from 4/4 
to 4/8. The 4/8 measure would simply be one half of a 4/4 measure. You 
could also say 2/4 & still nothing would change other than how you would 
read the measure unless the time sig change was accompanied with a tempo 
change.
