RE: Brian Eno about recorded music

I've heard that many times too. I'm not sure what to think about that.
One part of me says that I really liked some of the album cover art and the other says "It's about the music isnt it?" Vibrations in the air, who cares how it gets there...
I'm confused...

Might be a generational thing, but for my 58 year old part when I plunk down my money I much prefer an actual physical object rather than permission to access a "stream" or whatever.  And I sure don't want to spend money on an inferior format like mp3.

Of course I agree with Eno too...the demise of records and CD´s was inevitable (they had nice covers mind.. I miss them.. ALOT actually!!)  and the enormous amount of money made thru selling them, very rarely got to the people who actually made the music, apart from spectacularly well publicized stars who pranced about like idiots for  3 decades... I can live with out them...

However, this

"music can be streamed right into you preferred listening device" of which Per drools.. is just a nightmare to me... I just cannot sit at my computer for ANY MORE time than I already do.. either to PLAY my music or to BUY my music.. I will not, shall not, buy from iTunes (despite having my own music up there - Im no fool..)
Spotify?
Nope.. yikes...
Genius?
HELP!!!
That the web can figure out my taste in music from my collection, and then try to sell it to me... is just AWFUL.... I KNOW IT WORKS... Ive seen it in action.. but its just awful... God!!!! its my own computer, I bought it, its mine, I don't want it suggesting what I should buy, just like I don't want my fridge suggesting what I should eat!!! Look You fucking SMEG... if I want chips Im gonna eat chips!! OK???

The days of going by train to London, wandering off the Tottenham court road, into the lanes that contained indie record shop after indie record shop and standing there, leafing thru thousands of records, playing some on the shops sound system, discussing with owners, whether its better than the last, and heres a really rare bootleg... are gone... long gone... and Eno doesn't care? Well.. maybe not.

Put it this way, I havent BOUGHT a record since I went into a shop and bought one... OH .. WAIT... I´ve bought a few of YOUR records, from people on this list...

Oh and Per?
>The live scene is reported as increasing too, as I hear from most countries.

Er.. that is very very very very very very wrong... Maybe the live scene has gone from totally completely crap, to just plain awful... you and me both live in countries where the Arts are heavily subsidised (Call it Jazz in Norway, you get a grant!! ) so maybe we dont notice too much, maybe its not too bad in the UK, where theay have always been over saturated with upcoming indie bands, but France? Germany, Italy, Spain, Im not so sure??? The days of a mid upcoming indie band getting tour support for a Euro tour is well an truly over, and touring bands are either a) just sold a shedload maybe on iTunes) or slumming it doing  a "train-tour". I cant remember the last time I went to a UK band here in Oslo... there just not here!!!

To summarise what I feel.. The loss of records and any selling medium was absolutely and completley inevitable, and I like Per and Eno, foresaw it many many years ago...
There ARE new options and fascinating and creative distribution ideas, Virtual gigs and streaming live free music, more and more are self publishing and releasing small numbers of (sometime) very high quality work, experimental musicians are actually just as visible as capable as "pop" musicians in this new paradigm...

... but it doesnt mean that its a terrible shame... dont pretend it isn't...

Mark

BTW, Vinyl sales are on the increase!!!
