Ditto on Krispen, and a shout out to my Welsh homeboy Gareth as well! Nice
to hear from both of you.

I haven't listened to King Krimson in a long time, though I was a fan
back
in the day and got to see them live, as well as the Bears. I didn't really
get the Bears though. It was nice to see that Belew is still playing with
creativity and abandon and still possesses an arsenal of great techniques.
His whammy bar technique, like Jeff Beck's continues to evolve. He has a
cool guitar. I really like him, but the music didn't really grab me,
perhaps because the rhythm section was overplaying a bit from my
perspective. I respect the hell out of him as an innovator and musician.
It is interesting to note that he is still playing through Johnson modeling
amps live. One aspect of his tone that I have moved away from personally is
the extreme compression he uses, most evident on clean tones. It's punchy,
and in your face but pretty devoid of dynamics. I just prefer music with
more holes and there in lies the challenge of playing in a power trio: How
to make the music full without turning in to a full fledged wank-a-thon.
This band did a better job than most but could have gone further in
developing some different kinds of atmosphere, and a bit more space.
