THiS WEDNESDAY AUGUST 20th 2008 . THE AMBiENT PiNG's
NiNTH ANNiVERSARY SPECiAL with mara's torment, PHOLDE,
WHISPER ROOM and GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS

@ The Central . 603 Markham St . 1 block from the Bathurst subway
Map, info and directions at: http://www.thecentral.ca/info.php
  PiNG doors open at 8pm . 1st set at 8:30 . $6

. For the PiNG's NiNTH ANNiVERSARY we're returning to the
comfortable sociable space of The Central (just west & south of
the Bathurst Subway Station beside Honest Ed's & Suspect Video.
(BTW - besides their fine beers they also serve delicious meals.)

Like past anniversary shows, we've invited some good friends
who have played a large part in the PiNG's history to perform.
The sonics will be provided by mara's torment (rik maclean from
ping things - who we're sure will be deeply inspired by the mighty
rains we've been having), PHOLDE (Alan Bloor aka KNURL -
performing on metal soundsculptures) and Whisper Room
(a new ambient/improv supergroup with guitarist Aidan Baker
from Nadja & ARC, Neil Wiernik aka NAW on bass guitar and
Jakob Thiesen from Students and The Reversibles on drum
machine.) Of course it wouldn't be an anniversary show
without the evolving light paintings of General Chaos Visuals,
so we're very happy to have Stephen Lindsey + Eric Siegerman
returning for their sixth PiNG anniversary show performance.

   Doors open at 1.30pm . 1st set at 2:00 . $6

. For September, we're planning something a little different from
our usual in-club PiNG shows as we return to the Textile Museum
of Canada's Auditorium for a Sunday afternoon concert. Come on
out and settle back into the comfy seats to enjoy the sonic and
visual textures emanating from the stage.

. There'll be soundscapes and sequencer-driven space music
piloted by dSU [Eric Hopper (Sylken), Scott M2 (dreamSTATE)
and Jamie Todd (dreamSTATE & URM)] building on their late
80's & early 90's electronic explorations together as Radio Silence.
dreamSTATE - http://www.dreamstate.to
Sylken - http://www.myspace.com/sylkenmusic
URM - http://www.urm.ca

. Queen of the robots, Anne Sulikowski will be Building Castles
Out of Matchsticks as she coaxes lovely sonics from her synths while
cooing and musing overtop exploring both extraordinary events and
the simple pleasures and boredom of her everyday life.

. The auditorium is a large space, so who better to fill it visually
than General Chaos Visuals, who will be bringing out their full
arsenal of projectors and light toys to turn the theatre and
the performers into a canvas for their evolving light painting.

. We're not done yet though. We will be announcing more acts
soon for this special event - so stay tuned for more details in the
next PiNG email. If you can't wait, just keep checking the PiNG
site as things will be posted as soon as they're confirmed.

Special thanks go to Maurie Todd and the Textile Museum of
Canada for helping us to make this happen.

ping things is proud to present its fourth net label release,
"Land" by Nunc Stans is a brand new and exclusive digital EP.
A stunning work that captures the sound of Nunc Stans at a
turning point where drone-based sensibilities blend seamlessly
with melodic work to create a stunning sonic environment for the
listener to explore. Influenced by the stark beauty of Northern
Canada, Kerby has created a set of aural landscapes that inspires
and delights from the cold drones of opener "Before the Colors
Deepened", through the sparse melodies and underlying urgency
of "Journey of a Thousand Days", to closing track "Ice Field" with
it's beautiful humming tones and found sounds.

"Land" by Nunc Stans is available for free download as a 69Mb Zip
file containing the full release in high quality 256kbps mp3 format
along with front cover and tray card art suitable for printing in both
jpg and psd formats. The music on this release is copyright Anthony
Paul Kerby, 2008 and may not be used or reproduced without the
artist's express permission. If you like the work of Nunc Stans, check
