One possibility you could consider is a JBL Eon 15 powered speaker.

Those have a nice even frequency response, a sweet, clean sound, 
and plenty of volume.

When I'm not using a pair as a pa system, I use just one as a guitar amp,
and (with  the right pre-amp of course) it sounds great.
