It kicks the EDP into working according to one of those alternative
interface modes. It's well described in the manual. I don't have my
EDP by me right now, since I lent it to a friend, but if my memory
serves me correctly one such mode is called "Replace Mode". That's the
one I prefer with the EDP, I think there are about three or four more.
