Which version of the EDP software are you running?  This sounds like the old v3.2 issue.  From the EDP FAQ:

I had a problem where tbe beginning of a volume swell was cut
off in the recorded loop. (or:I heard there is a problem with volume

LoopIII v3.2, people often complained that the noisegate cut off quiet
sections of their loops. It was fairly irritating. This happened
because the threshold for our friendly noisegate was set too high. For
the LoopIII v5.0 version, the threshold setting of the noisegate has
been reset to a much lower value. Volume swells and such don't cut in
like they used to. Hopefully this works for everyone. If you are using
the old software and have this problem, make sure to get the upgrade.

The EDP works fine when I play a strong rhythmic figure, but when I do volume swells or soft passages, it cuts off the playback when the input level gets too low. In other words, say I volume swell in a chord.......on playback, it cuts off the beginning of the swell and end of it, abruptly. The loop is the entire length I recorded, but you only HEAR the louder sections. Kind of sucks.

I'm using my strat straight into the EDP, then right out to the amp. I have the input set so it's green and only only goes orange when I nail it.
