Interesting. Just listened to it again, those congas sounds like prety 
close to the real thing, maybe only missing the percussive attack.
If you hadn't told about the bassworks, I wouldn't have guessed guitar.

Did you study Turkish/Arab/Indian scales and intonations?
A holliday in Turkey got me interested in those...

Searching for fretless guitar clips, I stumbled over
Cenk Erdogan Perdesiz.  Very interesting stuff.
