OT: mechanical drum machine

Just saw James Taylor performing on TV using a mechanical drum machine that
he built. It was like a giant music box that physically played a snare drum
and other percussive devices.  Very interesting.   Like a music box, it
appeared that it might be programmable by using different belts to drive it
or pegs in the drums.    
He was also singing through a bull horn (megaphone) instead of a mic.   Way
to go James!
