I've heard great things about the Electro-Harmonix POG (just octaves, up 
and down 2) and HOG (octaves, fifths, thirds, MIDI, expression 
pedals...). Not an intelligent shifter, though. But apparently tracks 
extremely well and sounds great, and the sliders are nice for mixing the 
various additions together.
