You actually get paid? That's a rarity in my experience. I kind of 
resent the implication that by playing for free, I don't care - quite 
the reverse. If I didn't care, I wouldn't traipse around the country 
playing 20 minute sets to minimal audiences. Even if there is an 
entrance fee, it rarely generates enough to cover the cost of the 
venue, petrol for the performers AND any left over.

It's just one of the things you need to accept as a looper, 
(certainly in the UK) - you'll make bugger-all money and play to 
"select" audiences in "atmospheric" venues ;)
