There are two Ground Controls, the old one that is relatively simple
and not many people use and the "Pro" which is what is on the market
now.   The Pro can be configured for 4, 8 or 12 momentary switches.  
 
I have one of these too (yes, I seem to collect footswitches).  
When I was using it I had the top two rows configured for 8
momentary switches and the bottom row for 4 program changes.
 
Aside from the noise the main thing I didn't like about the GCP is
that the momentary switches (or what it calls instant access switches)
are global, you can't have different CC assignments in different
banks like you can on the FCB.  So you have at most 12 momentary
switch possibilities on the GCP compared to 100 on the FCB.
