RE: Last Night's Performance Recording & Notes - Boise State University Amphitheater

Kris, I want to chime in here and say that I listened to the whole show on a drive home Friday through the countryside, and it was a fabulous listening experience. The sound world you've developed is a rich and enveloping one, but what is for me more impressive is the structure, however flickering it may be, and depite a few turns down some alleys. Understanding how to use the myriad looping technoques available to create themes on the fly, transmute them, and then bring their mangled offspring back for breeding with new ideas is something to which many if not all of us aspire. I for one loved hearing the really gorgeous guitar playing that closes the piece. You are not afraid to be lyrical, and it is great to hear more of that than we have for quite some time.

World class stuff.

Thanks, Ted. This is one of the nicest commentaries of my work, and you are spot on, which isn't surprising given how many influences we have in common. It's almost uncanny. Terje Rypdal? yeah. I really appreciate when someon can hear my "voice" or musical genetic code stand in relief admist my work, regardless of how many effects I'm using, whether hardware or laptop/software.  That's the sort of thing I have been striving for over 28 years as a guitarist and composer.

I had no idea you were a member of SEAMUS. You must tell me more when we meet again, as I have become more interested in electro-acoustic music lately, for obvious reasons. :)

Kris,

I downloaded your MP3 at work this morning and listened to it 2 or 3 times through.
I've downloaded it here at home too and I'm listening to it again here right now.
I rather have enjoyed it every bit as much (maybe even a little more) than anything you've done so far.
I don't get the one LD commenter who posted something about "too bad some of the guitar was recognizable" (as guitar, I guess).
You're a guitar player fer chrissakes . . . and a damn good one too . . . what's their problem?
You have a tone and a way of phrasing that I instantly recognize -- no mater how it might be otherwise disguised by bleeps and blonks
Now, I have to say I do like those bleeps and blonks too.
But, if you were to entirely lose the guitar part it would just be another one of many electronic music "experiments" (IMOHO).
The guitar humanizes it somewhat.

And, to be honest, in the late '80s and early 90s I was a member of academic musical organization SEAMUS (Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the US).

I was even president of the L.A. chapter for a year or so.
Anyhoo, I nave heard waaaaaay too many "bleep and blonk" concerts over the years to be much impressed by anything less than pretty extraordinary.
I love your playing and I really like the direction your music has taken.
You've enfolded the thing that you already do with the guitar into the MAX/MSP and looping thing quite well I think.

Keep it up.

I've yet to get there.
