AW: TC Konnekt24D revisited (was "comparison Fireface400 vs. Fireface800")

I talked with the aforementioned clerk about this just before it got
released, and we agreed that a set of phono inputs and a digital filter
effect do not justify the extra $200 - or am I missing something here?

I assume you're referring to micpres when you write "mic inserts"?
And always make sure to quote accurately - here's what I said:
"...(according to recording.org and gearslutz.com) the converters (both
directions) of the TC Konnekt win over any direct competition hands-down.
The micpres are in the same league as the Fireface's...".

About the converters: several people had been doing listening tests in
their
studios, comparing the converters to other boxes in the same league (among
them the RME Fireface and ADI-2) and priced above it. The micpre discussion
was just...well, discussion among people who made to me a knowledgeable
impression.

Of course, in that quality range, personal taste and specific applications
are important factors (and the application scenario even more so for the
micpres). What they did was use small-diaphragm condenser cardioids
(AKG451?) as drum OHs, tube cardioid (Brauner) on vocals and
small-diaphragm
condenser omnis (Schoeps) on a string ensemble - in every case, of course
using mic splitters which I can't remember.

        Rainer
