Hrm, split the channel into two further cloned channels, with one set 
up as a PRE aux feed and the other set up as POST.  Then use MIDI to 
mute and unmute the appropriate channels?

Okay, that's convoluted, but that's just as much a problem with the 
MIDI mapping as routing per se.  Otherwise, you've got a point.
