Some advice about the RC-50XL

Ive just discovered the joys of looping and i am so happy find this group
of dedicated musicians.

I own an RC-50XL looper which I am a bit frustrated using trying to
accurately time my live looping.

I am sure alot comes down to the player and your timing, etc. but is there
a better unit I should be looking for? Are there some hints and tricks
for this unit that I may be missing? Does using a drum machine w/ a midi
sequencer help the unit get extra functionality?

I play guitar with a 70/80/90 cover band and would like to lay down a
rhythm parts live and then jump over to leads. We have only 1 guitarist (I
want to keep it that way!!) Never seems to be on que, and the beat seems
to wander off. Secondly I would like to use it to do one or 2 man shows
playing a more house/groove type of sound. Should I be thinking PC/MAC
softsynths?
