thanks, andreas. Yes, I'm using a homemade loop cassette in the 
four-track, and a standard microcassette in the dictating machine. It's 
possible to buy pre-made loop tapes (used in the old-style answering 
machines), but they don't allow you to flip the tape over for reverse 
effects.
