it would have been nice if roland had included some kind of display  
"notification" for lack of a better word that would tell you which  
mode you were in, i agree with that wholeheartedly.

the person posting on this group that seems to have this unit dialed  
in like crazy is buzzap (not sure i have that exactly right).  his  
posts seem to be the most comprehensive and thorough, and he might  
know better how to address what you're asking.  (certainly better  
than roland, he says dripping with sarcasm).  i personally have not  
used the unit in quite the same way you're describing.  i tend to  
just build pieces within a given patch, using the three patterns to  
create loops of different lengths, directions, etc.
