This is true.  There is only one reason to do music - because you love it.  All the others - money, sex, fame etc are spooky dead ends.  It's the only reason that won't slap you in the face, depress you, send you on tirades against those who've had better luck.  And it protects you from doing music you don't care about, or second guessing the record folks... or making Artifice instead of Art.  And finally, it will never let you down. 

This is not to say that those who are furious - and sometimes for good reason - don't love music.  But it's something I tell myself and all the up and coming folks I meet and work with.  It keeps it clean.  And you'll live longer.  And you have more time to practice.
