Steve do you have the Digi ASIO driver selected in Live? If you do, the MBox 2 should show up as your audio interface and it Should let you use the digital i/o as well. You may have to download the latest ASIO drivers from the www.digidesign.com site and install them.

Hm, don't know the answer to your specific problem. I haven't worked with SPDIF.

Have you checked the Ableton forums? Been very helpful for me at least.

I have an effects processor (ToneLab) which connects my guitar to my MBox 2 Pro via S/PDIF, which connects to my Windows PC via Firewire.  I’m trying to get Live to recognize the signal from the S/PDIF port but am not succeeding.  I am not using ProTools in this scenario, just Live standalone.  It does recognize audio coming from direct audio inputs, just not from S/PDIF.
