RE: inputing bass

Ah,
you gotta love free internet in the airport. Yes, Badass Edge. I love it. It's
not just an octave, but has some other interesting filtering features. I
can't describe what it is, but this VST makes my guitar sound like a bass guitar
better than any other octave patch I've used...it even blows away the pitch
shifting on my Boss VF1.
More
here:
"EDGE is a subharmonic synth, which means
that if you feed it audio the resulting output will be your audio plus extra low
bass.Unlike most bass enhancers, it doesn't just boost the bass or shape the
lower frequencies. What it does is takes the input signal and creates a bass
signal one (or even two) octaves lower than the original. Because not every
signal is a simple sine wave, there is input filtering which effectively gives
the plugin a more simple waveform to process."
Oh,
wow...now I see why it sounds so different. It is a subharmonic synth. This
thing can shake the earth if you have some wattage in the
cottage.

This will, of course, revert to a hardware
vs. software question. I don't know of any loopers, hardware or
software, in and of themselves that will really give you what you're looking
for. Then again, I'm not terribly familiar with most loopers. In
the software world, Mobius does have pitch and rate adjustment features.
However, I haven't had much success with these when playing a rhythmic bass
line. Still some bugs to work out there, I think. Krispen has
pointed out a VST called Edge (if I'm remembering correctly) that he uses in
conjunction with Mobius to produce some great bass sounds from his
guitars. I'm sure he can give you more details if you're
interested.
