These systems in their entirety are often referred to as an 
instrument, for instance Jimi Hendrix and his Marshalls, Jon Hassel 
and his harmonizer... I think this discussion got of on the wrong 
foot by claiming that an effect was an instrument. This may be 
correct, Electro Harmonix is of the philosophy that their 16 second 
delay and 2880 are 'looping instruments'.
