improv vs arrangement

Due largely to the technicalities (an old jamman), I'm 100% improvised,
although I have themes and vague structures. I'd imagine the sample based
loopers require a pretty clear head on their shoulders in order to
reproduce
things closely at different gigs!

It's probably a psychological thing, but somehow having pre-prepared
samples on
flash rom in a pedal would seem to have few advantages (other than cost!)
over
a laptop based system. I've seen gigs where everything comes from laptop
and it
seems perilously close to being a DJ. Not that I have anything against
DJs, but the skill
becomes one of mixing rather than playing.

All the best,

Nick Robinson
