Latency is actually longer with tube amps than with the transistor
based amps. Among metal guitarists this is an well known fact.

When touring, as an electric guitar player, I have always hated those
stages where I have to stand too far from my amp and speaker. Never
measured the latency of air but you can definitely feel it. And when
you know that all gear is closely mic'ed overe the PA you can't adjust
your playing to what you hear on stage because the audience will hear
all musicians with no latency. If it wasn't for the PA system it's easy
to adapt to latency. Some symphonic musicians are very good at that, as
you can hear. Thinking about those horns that reflect at the ceiling
before heard by the audience. They have to play a little "early" to
give the listeners the best musical experience.
