The Ambient Ping presents Planet Of The Loops

Spring is in the air... but if you're indoors, take some time to
explore the brand new Ambient Ping website - redesigned by
Jamie Todd (URM/dreamSTATE). http://www.theambientping.com
Live photos in the events sections are now updated and current
right up to this week's show, so there's enough fresh material
for multiple visits. Enjoy the results of Jamie's many, many
hours of design work... Cheers, Scott M2

This Tuesday March 30th - Planet Of The Loops

Planet Of The Loops presents a dark looping event - a celebration
of young European composers. Andrew Aldridge will be playing
some guitar & has pre-recorded bits of compositions by Danish
composer Poul Ruders and Finnish composer Kaija Sarriaho.
Each set will be improvisions based around a composition by
Ruders or Sarriaho. Peter Murray will be playing/looping/treating
bass. Peter has played bass with a wide variety of artists including
Ron Sexsmith, Damhnait Doyle, Jerome Godboo, Jian Ghomeshi
and Jory Nash. He's currently playing with Morgan Finlay, the
Moonrise Jazz Trio and a new experimental improv group called
Retainer. As a singer-songwriter, he's almost finished his debut CD.

Between Sets CD - "Lightness" by Brian Eno (Opal)
To balance the "darkness" of the rest of the evening's music we'll
be playing "Lightness", an excerpt from a hypothetically endless
multiple loop-based piece which Brian Eno created for the
Marble Palace at the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg,
November 1997. http://music.hyperreal.org/artists/brian_eno/

rik maclean's *ping things* CD Reviews

"Seed" by Ma Ja Le and James Johnson

Fans of both James Johnson's and Ma Ja Le's work will no doubt
be thrilled by this release, a musical meeting of minds that produces
a fantastic work of beauty and magic. Subtle textures and oblique
movement permeate throughout the disc creating a shimmering
cocoon that enshrouds the listener, drawing them deeper into an
otherworldly state of being. Light percussion passes through
leaving ripples and vapor trails behind in their wake. A passing
flute, or is it something more exotic? Other sounds float by,
caressing you as you drift further and further away from the
physical world and into this new land of wonder.

A sheer delight from start to end.
